Resting in Prayer

She wants to play. She needs to nap. I get great joy out of playing with her for hours on end, but there comes a point when her need for sleep takes precedent. On days when she protests (loudly) about naptime, I have to remind myself that she doesn't understand what she needs and proceed to meet those needs regardless of what she is asking. My relationship with the Father operates in much the same way. Even when I think I know what my needs are, He knows better. Thankfully, it's not up to me to pray perfect prayers to get those needs met. Just like a parent, He meets me in my weakness and misunderstanding...

So too the Holy Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness;
for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought,
but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf
with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.
And He who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the Holy Spirit
(what His intent is), because the Spirit intercedes and pleads (before God)
in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will.
Romans 8:26-27
